Real prep tips for Anthropic's Claude Certified Associate – Foundations (CCAO-F) certification: what I studied, the formats I practiced, and what I wish I'd known sooner.
Study in this order: output evaluation carries the most weight.
My exam didn't have a single coding or API question. It was all business scenarios: picking the model, writing the prompt, governance, when to have a human review.
Output evaluation is worth 21% of the exam: success criteria, evals, and human review. Start there.
Requirements → pick the tool/model → run the prompt → evaluate results → refine. Several questions ask you to order steps this way.
Single choice, multiple-response (pick 2 or 3), and sequencing (order 5 steps; the answer is the order, e.g. 35124).
There is almost always exactly one 'plausible' option that is false — and one wrong pick can kill the whole question.
Skills live in Customize > Skills; reference documents in the project knowledge; guidelines in the project instructions; chats in a shared project stay private.
Connectors inherit YOUR permissions from the connected service, and that service processes the data on its own infrastructure, under its own terms.
120 minutes / 60 questions = 2 minutes per question. Do at least one full timed mock before exam day.
Everything testable comes from Claude's public documentation. I loaded those sources into NotebookLM and generated practice tests — it was the closest thing to my real exam.
The 'right' answer is usually the one that verifies the output (citations, criteria, human review for high-impact decisions) instead of accepting the first answer.
After passing with 818/1000, I turned everything I learned into a complete practice system. No fluff — just the questions, the formats, and the feedback that actually prepare you.
